Dear ABCUSD Students, Families, and Community,
The ABC Unified School District has started the planning process to offer in-person instruction pending notification from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health that it is safe for all students to attend school in-person.
Pending approval from local and County officials, in-person school may begin in late January.
On September 22, 2020, the ABCUSD Board of Education approved the Local Continuity and Attendance Plan, including a description of our in-person instructional model, the Hybrid. The Hybrid consists of two cohorts with students attending school in-person twice a week and learning at home the remaining three-days: Cohort A, students attend Monday and Tuesday, and; Cohort B, students attend Thursday and Friday.
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health will determine when it is safe for districts to provide in-person instruction for all students. Currently, Los Angeles County remains at the highest risk level for the spread of COVID-19. Consequently, it is unknown when the County will move to a level that allows the District to offer in-person instruction for all students.
Meanwhile, District staff are moving forward with the planning process, giving us the ability to provide the Hybrid upon approval from county and local officials. Once the Hybrid is available, families can decide if they would like to continue in the Virtual Academy or transition to the Hybrid.
There will be a presentation and update on the planning process at the November 4, 2020 Board Meeting. Families will have multiple opportunities to attend meetings, ask questions, and receive information regarding the Hybrid Model during the week of November 9 - 13, 2020.
We will continue to provide information about this process as we move forward.
Please stay healthy and safe.
Dr. Mary Sieu
