State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond has named Gahr High School a 2021 California Distinguished School. The California Department of Education recognizes schools through this program based on state indicators on the California Schools Dashboard. The Dashboard, the state's accountability, and continuous improvement structure include school data like test scores, school climate, and school conditions.
Fedde International Studies Academy, in Hawaiian Gardens, has been re-designated as a 2021 “California School to Watch.” Fedde Academy was first recognized as a School to Watch in 2015 and was re-designated in 2018.

In order to control the spread of the COVID-19 virus, those visiting schools or district offices/facilities must have an appointment.
On February 1, 2021, the ABC Unified School District applied for reopening under Governor Newsom's Safe Schools for All plan. Both the application and safety plans are attached. It's important to note two elements for reopening: 1. Countywide new cases must be at or less than 25 per 100,000, and 2. The Governor's Safe Schools for All plan has yet to be approved by the Legislature.
