Cerritos and Whitney High Schools Named California Distinguished Schools

Two ABCUSD Schools Earn 2026 California Distinguished School Honors

The California Department of Education recently announced the recipients of the 2026 California Distinguished Schools award, recognizing 408 middle and high schools across the state. Both Cerritos High School and Whitney High School were among the schools selected for this prestigious statewide recognition.

“We are so proud of Cerritos and Whitney for earning this well-deserved recognition,” said Board of Education President Mr. Francisco Noyola. “This recognition reflects the hard work and dedication of the schools’ students, families, and staff.”

The California Department of Education has been celebrating exceptional schools since 1985. This year’s award categories build on long-standing recognition of both high academic achievement for all students and closing the achievement gap. Both Cerritos and Whitney High Schools were recognized for closing the achievement gap within their respective student populations.

“Congratulations to both Cerritos and Whitney High Schools, and their school communities, for being recognized for all they are doing for students,” said Superintendent Dr. Gina Zietlow. “Our schools continue to be recognized for the amazing educational opportunities we are providing for each and every one of our students.”

Both Cerritos and Whitney High Schools have received multiple California Distinguished School recognitions since the program’s inception. Most recently, both schools earned the honor in 2024. Whitney High School also received the National Blue Ribbon School designation in 2024.

Cerritos and Whitney High Schools will be formally honored at the California School Recognition Program Awards Ceremony this April, where educators from across the state will gather to celebrate their achievements and commitment to student success.
