Applications Open for District Surplus Property Advisory Committee

ABC Unified School District Application for Surplus Property Advisory Committee

(7-11 Committee)

The ABC Unified School District (“District”) is seeking qualified, interested individuals to serve on the District’s Surplus Property Advisory Committee (“Committee”).

 

On March 10, 2026, the Board approved Resolution 25-25 forming the Committee pursuant to Education Code section 17387 et seq.  The role of the Committee is to advise the District’s Governing Board (“Board”) regarding the disposition of District-owned real properties. Members of the Committee will have the opportunity to contribute to important decisions that impact the District and the communities we serve.  

 

Committee Responsibilities

Pursuant to Education Code section 17390, the Committee is charged with the following duties:

  • Reviewing projected school enrollment and other data to determine the amount of surplus space and real property
  • Establishing a priority list of uses for surplus space and real property that will be acceptable to the community
  • Circulating the priority list throughout the attendance area and providing for community input hearings on acceptable uses of space and real property, including the sale or lease of surplus real property for childcare development purposes
  • Making a final determination of acceptable uses of space and real property
  • Forwarding a report to the District's governing board recommending uses of surplus space and real property

 

Appointment of Committee Members

Appointments will be made by the Board from applications submitted to the District.  The Committee shall consist of at least seven (7) members, but no more than eleven (11) members, and based on the following criteria:

  • The ethnic, age group, and socioeconomic composition of the District
  • The business community (e.g., store owners, managers, or supervisors)
  • Landowners or renters, with preference given to representatives of neighborhood associations
  • Teachers
  • Administrators
  • Parents of students
  • Persons with expertise in environmental impact, legal contracts, building codes, and land use planning (including knowledge of zoning and other land use restrictions)

 

Those interested in serving on the 7-11 Committee should complete the application and submit it by April 15, 2026.
