Transitional Kindergarten
TK Webpage Content
Transitional Kindergarten, or TK, is the bridge between preschool and kindergarten, giving students a strong foundation for success as they move on to elementary school. TK instruction focuses on a mix of academics and social-emotional experiences so that students are not only more prepared for math and literacy but develop important social skills and maturity for the transition into kindergarten. You can learn the importance of TK at the TKCalifornia website, published by the California Department of Education.
In 2021, Governor Newsom signed Assembly Bill 130, which gradually expands access to TK over a four-year period until all four-year-old children will have the opportunity to attend. For the coming 2023-2024 school year, children must turn five years old between September 2, 2023, and April 2, 2024, to attend TK.
ABCUSD’s TK program is both challenging and fun for students, ensuring they are learning and developing to be ready for kindergarten. TK is offered at 16 of the District’s 19 elementary schools.
