California Wildfire Update - January 9, 2025

A serious wildfire situation has unfolded in coastal areas of Southern California. Though the winds have died down in many areas, the Palisades, Eaton, Hurst, and other wildfires continue to spread with little to no containment. The risk of additional dangerous and destructive wildfires persists, and other factors including power outages, road closures and poor air quality remain a growing concern.

What We Know

  • Multiple fires are currently burning, including the Palisades, Eaton, Hurst, Lidia, Woodley, Olivas and Sunset fires.
  • As of Wednesday evening, these fires are zero percent contained, except the Hurst and Lidia fires, at 10% and 30% respectively, per officials.
  • More than 100,000 residents are under evacuation orders, and more than 300,000 people are without power.
  • California Gov. Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency in Los Angeles on Tuesday night.
