WHEN TO KEEP ILL CHILD HOME
To prevent illness from spreading in school, it is important to evaluate your child's health before sending them to school each day. Following the guidelines below will benefit your child, other children, and the school staff. Do not hesitate to contact your school nurse with any questions.
Please keep your child home if, in the last 24 hours they have had:
- A temperature above 100.4°F (38°C)
- Fast breathing or trouble breathing
- Vomited two or more times
- Diarrhea (two or more loose to watery stools)
- A body rash accompanied with fever and behavioral changes
- Eye infection with yellow or pus like discharge
Your child can return to school if during the past 24 hours:
- They have been fever free & have NOT taken any fever-reducing medication
- They no longer have loose/watery stools
- They can tolerate food and/or fluids without vomiting
- Eye infection symptoms have diminished and/or medication has been started
You can help prevent many illnesses by ensuring your child washes their hands often, covers their cough, and avoids touching their face. If you do see your healthcare provider, please be sure to request a written letter indicating when your child may return to school and any accommodations needed. Also, please keep your contact information up to date in your Parent Portal (Aeries) so that we may reach you in case of an emergency.
