Artesia High School

Artesia High School Accelerated Learning magnet was featured in the Huffington Post in a series of 5 articles published by Karin Chenoweth, writer for The Education Trust. Artesia High School is also the topic of chapter 1 in Ms. Chenoweth’s newly released book “Schools that Succeed.”  This national recognition on Artesia’s growth and success is a result of the hard work and dedication from our district, staff, students, parents, and community.

Artesia is committed to bridging the achievement gap for all students. The goal at Artesia High School is to provide students with a challenging and rigorous curriculum in a student-centered environment. Artesia has been recognized as a California Distinguished School as well as a Gold Ribbon School. Educational consultants regularly provide professional development for teachers and administrators. Teaching professionals are dedicated to providing a comprehensive curriculum driven by the Common Core and the New Generation Science Standards, that incorporates 21^st century skills in order to prepare students for post-graduate life.

 

 

 

With grade-level counselors, the counseling team endlessly strives to educate, develop community, and promote partnerships with students, alumni, faculty, employers and members of the college community. Extracurricular programs, such as field trips, and guest speakers encourage students to work hard to make their dreams a reality.

 

Artesia High School provides college support through our Student Union. The Student Union hosts a College Night and Financial Aid Night where students and parents attend workshops to provide information regarding college admission requirements and steps on how to fill out the FASFA. The Student Union also provides information for scholarship opportunities, hosts college application workshops, has a full computer lab equipped with free printing, and is open before and after school for students to study. 

 

Artesia High School offers a well-balanced academic learning environment. We currently offer 15 AP classes. We have two Project Lead the Way (PLTW) pathways in Engineering and Biomedical.  Our Renaissance and Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID) programs are leadership-building programs that focus on academic achievement and inspire all students to reach higher levels of success. Artesia offers a University of California Integration Spanish Course that integrates core academic (a-g) subjects with Career Technical Education. Demanding and engaging curriculum offers our students a learning environment that is challenging and well rounded.  Artesia has articulation agreements with the local community colleges where students can earn community college credit from their high school courses.

 

Artesia also has 10 Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways that include Biotechnology, Engineering Design, Family and Human Services, Game Design & Integration, International Business, Patient Care, Performing Arts, Production & Managerial, Systems, Diagnostics, Services & Repair, and Welding & Materials Joining. Academic curriculum and project-based learning is conducted in all classes to provide students with tools to prepare for their future.

 

 

Artesia promotes a college ready atmosphere throughout campus. We articulate with Cerritos College and have students participate in the Middle Scholars program where they concurrently attend and earn college credit while in high school.  We offer a summer Pre-AP Academy to prepare students for the rigor of the AP curriculum. Along with the Pre-AP Academy, after school and weekend practice tests and study sessions, and our AP Calculus camp our students are well prepared for their AP tests. All 10^th graders take the PSAT and it is offered to 9th and 11th graders as well. Results are reviewed with students during the PSAT night in order to better prepare them for the SATs.  AVID organizes college promotion projects: such as college Tuesdays. Our Student Union hosts the ‘I’m Going to College Dinner’ where students are recognized based on the college they are attending.

 

Our award winning band program boasts dedicated and talented marching and concert musicians. The band not only performs at football games, field shows, pep rallies parades and community events, but festivals throughout the year. The instrumental music program not only builds the musicianship skills of its students, but also engages them in the appreciation, theory and composition.
